Sweet Relief 3.0: Food Blogger Bake Sale for Hurricane Relief

It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 7 years since the first Sweet Relief bake sale. If you remember, that event essentially brought the Nashville Food Bloggers group to life, while also raising over $1,000 for the Nashville flood relief efforts. Our second bake sale in 2012 raised over $1,500 for hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

And now, in light of recent events, we will spread the sugary love once again to raise money and show our support for Houston and all those affected by hurricane Harvey.

On Saturday, September 9th, Nashville’s food bloggers unite once again to raise money for hurricane Harvey relief. The Sweet Relief 3.0 bake sale will run from 12:00 pm until 4:00pm (or until the goodies are gone!) at TailGate brewery in West Nashville. All proceeds from the event will benefit Houston Food Bank and their efforts to provide food, water and supplies to victims of hurricane Harvey.

Want to bake?

If you’d like to contributed home-baked goodies for this fundraiser, please fill out the participation form here. While we’re calling this a food blogger bake sale, it doesn’t mean you can’t participate if you don’t have a blog. Food bloggers, non-food bloggers, and food blog fans are more than welcome to participate! We’re looking for helpers and bakers regardless of blogging status. If you’re not able to bake something, you can still help out the cause by coming by and purchasing goodies, and by spreading the word about this event!

Some ideas for what you could bring include cookies, sandwich cookies, cupcakes, brownies, rice krispie treats, cake pops, whoopie pies, homemade candy, cinnamon rolls, quick breads, muffins, pretzels, etc. If you do plan to bake, here are a few guidelines/requests:

  • All baked goods should be dropped off at TailGate between 11:15 and 11:45am on Saturday. If you cannot drop your baked goods off at the specified time, please get in touch and we can arrange for you to drop off your baked goods ahead of time.
  • Everything will be priced at $2, please bake accordingly. You may decide to, for example, package 2-3 small cookies together in a bag or cut your brownies to a specific size you feel warrants a $2 price tag. We may also have a few whole desserts (pies/cakes/etc) that will be priced individually.
  • Please package your baked goods to make it easy for folks to purchase and take it with them. The packaging doesn’t have to be fancy, but loose cookies or messy cake slices floating around can be problematic. Treat bags, cello wrap, or gift boxes are great options. It doesn’t need to be fancy, just functional.
  • Feel free to label your baked goods so people know what they are, we’ll also have blank cards you can write on so that everything is clearly labeled.
  • Feel free also to bring your blog business cards or package them with your treats. Even better, share the recipe and event info on your blog to help promote the fundraiser (feel free to link to this post or the Facebook event).

Local Business?

If you are a local business and would like to join our fundraising efforts, please get in touch! We’d love to have a few partners donating a % of sales during the same time period as the bake sale or even match our total donation dollar for dollar. We’re open to any ideas you may have to increase our impact as much as possible!

Spread the Word!

Be sure to come by and show your support by enjoying sweets for a great cause! Also, don’t forget to RSVP on Facebook and tell all your friends!

Since we have less than a week to get the word out about this event, please do all you can to promote it. We have larger versions of the event poster available here for you to use on your own blog (or click on the graphic above).
